Human Services provides temporary emergency assistance and supportive services to eligible residents of Volusia County. The Family Self-Sufficiency Program will provide eligible individuals with educational and training opportunities to empower them to become economically self-sufficient.
Palmetto House, with its forty-eight rooms, is the largest temporary housing facility in Volusia and Flagler Counties. Its purpose is to facilitate the movement of homeless individuals to permanent housing within a reasonable amount of time (usually 24 months).
The Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) is the federal government major program which assists very low-income families including the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market.
COA offers a range of services to Volusia County seniors–from vibrant Senior Center activities, meal delivery, and reassurance phone calls to In-Home care, Respite Care, and Guardianship. Services are either grant-and donation- funded, which means they are provided at no cost or low-cost to those who qualify, or they can be provided on a private pay basis.
Our Community partners are nonprofit organizations, public agencies, government agencies, schools, and certain private businesses that provide community services as an integral part of the success and self-sufficiency of our residents. Services may include direct service with clients, special projects, research, or other activities that are identified by the community partner to meet a real need.
The primary purposes are the provision of decent, affordable housing for lower-income persons to expand opportunities available to very low, low, and moderate-income citizens and to raise the economic, educational and social levels of the residents of Volusia and Flagler Counties, and City of Daytona Beach, Florida.
Your family qualifies for the Head Start program if your household income is at or below the poverty level. Families who receive public assistance (TANF, SSI, or SNAP), and those with children in foster care or children who are homeless, also qualify regardless of income.
